Question: My 12-year old Lab/mix 'Aggie' had a 'grape-cluster' melanoma removedfrom her inner lip about 18 months ago. Prognosis was not good. Theysaid it would metastasize to organs within months. About a year ago abump on her lymph node near her ear was discovered, this time she wasgiven three months to live. At that time we were put in touch with ahomeopathic DVM and began homeopathic treatment at home. Chemo wasruled out, and excision not considered because of proximity to neck. The grape cluster in her mouth came back, larger and meaner to where shecouldn't chew without bleeding. Then it went away. Meanwhile the lumpon her neck went from grape to lime size, then to grapefruit and now tosmall pineapple size. Meanwhile Aggie doesn't realize she's sick, hercoat is shiny and her attitude/appetite's fine. She has lived farlonger than expected, and we are plugging away with the dailyhomeopaths. Has anybody had any experience with vet directed homeopathyfor cancer in dogs?
Answer: What do you feed Aggie? I would hope that the homeopathic vet askedabout her diet, and perhaps suggested modifications, esp. addingantioxidants. There are cancer-starving diets on the net you can searchfor, recommendations on which antioxidants to supplement with and atwhat level, and I *believe* it's the Morris Animal Foundation that willwork with your vet to design a better diet that can help. At minimum,Science Diet (and I'm no great fan of SD) has come out with acancer-specific food called N/D that reportedly has some hard evidencebacking its claim that it's helped keep some cancers at bay.
