Question: What are home remedies for ear aches?
Answer: sit up- a few min upright will decrease swelling and start your eustachian tubes draining. Swallowing will help ease the pain. If you can prop your head slightly to help draingage while you sleep. turn on the hair dryer-low warm setting 18-20 in. from ear. Aim air into aching ear. wiggle your ear- if you can hold your outer ear and wiggle it than the infection is in your middle ear. If moving causes pain infection is probably in outer ear canal. Warm some baby or mineral oil to body temp. Place a drop in offending ear, this will lessen the pain. (never put fluids in your ear if you think your eardrum is ruptured). chew a wad of gum- this is a way to open ears on a flight, the muscular action will do the trick of opening eustachian tubes. yawn- this opens eustachian tubes even more than gum. Don't forget motrin is a pain killer + reduces swelling that helps. Take a decongestant at bedtime, use a nose spray in addition to decongestant. Sip on water- opens tubes also. Open tubes less pain.
