Question: Opponents of alternative medicine held a news conference October 14 inWashington, DC to announce publication of "Scientific Review ofAlternative Medicine," a new medical journal dedicated to criticalappraisals of alternative medicine. "The new journal will consider eachclaim on its merits," said editor Wallace Sampson, M.D., clinical professorof medicine, Stanford University and chairman of the National CouncilAgainst Health Fraud. "It will reject no claim because it fits, or fails tofit, some paradigm. It will simply seek justified answers to two questions:'Is it true?' and 'Does this treatment work?'"
Answer: Maybe if they had called it the "Office For the Scientific Evaluationof Alternative Medicine." I don't know if it makes any difference. The thing only has enoughmoney to talk about alternative medicine-- certainly not enough to domany good studies. What we need is a good tax on food supplements, herbs, andhomeopathics, proceeds to go to the OAM.
